Question

Amending my return

I filed my tax return for last year and shortly after doing so, I received a 1099-R for transferring my 401k into a Rollover IRA. The 1099-R has a gross distribution amount listed and a taxable amount of $0 (also, box 7 is G). I attempted to amend my return and was told nothing changed and, therefore, an amendment is not needed. My question is do I need to amend my return, and if so where are these numbers supposed to go on the 1040-X?

Thank you for your help!

No you do not need to amend. Direct rollovers reported with code G in box 7 can be either nontaxable or taxable depending on the type of account that receives the rollover. Assuming the destination IRA is a traditional IRA, then there is nothing to amend.

Keep  the 1099-R for your records.

Amazing, thank you so much! Yes it was rolled over to a Traditional IRA.
