It sounds like you may be entering the information in the IRA contribution section of your return.

401k contributions would be reported on your W-2 if made through your employer. They do not need to be entered anywhere else in your tax return.

If you are self-employed, search for 'self-employed retirement' to go to the correct section to enter your self-employed retirement contributions.
