They are both retirement accounts.  You only required to report your IRA or 401K distributions when you take $$ from your 401K .  If you had a distribution, you would have received a 1099-R.  All 1099-Rs have to be reported.  If you only made contributions to your 401K through your job, these amounts have already been reported on your W-2 and you do not need to do anything else.
