Are former employees in education who are receiving a pension from that state while living in Alabama required to pay income tax on that pension?

@fmnjhome  Alabama does not tax your pension income if it comes from a defined benefit retirement plan.  A defined benefit retirement plan is one with a fixed and pre-determined benefit amount.  Alabama also exempts military retirement pay.

a civil employee is one whom works for the government. So if you worked in public education yes, you are a civil employee.
