Question

Box 16 on 1099-R is blank and Turbo Tax will not let me continue unless an amount is entered. I don't think it is wise to just add the amount from box 1 information into box 16. I have had this problem for weeks and have the current update on Turbo

    @book03 , generally the Box 16  ( State Distribution ) is filled in when and if any State Taxes were withheld at the time of distribution.   If Turbo is not  letting you get  past  then one option is to   enter  the Box 1    ( Distribution )  number if and only if  Box 2 is blank Else enter the Box 2  ( the  federal taxable amount ).   While the federal withholding is mandatory, mostly the states  do not  demand  withholding.
