Question

Can I estimate the amount from DFAS if I could not get a 1099 R?

I used my Bank statements to determine the exact amount we received and deducted that from the gross to get the taxes paid.

You need a copy of the Form 1099-R to correctly complete the retirement income section of your tax return.

Go to this DFAS website for information - https://www.dfas.mil/legislativeaffairs/taxstatements/

I have tried by phone (many times) and email to get a copy of the 1099 R to no avail. I estimated the amount for the 3 months that he was paid (James died March 15, 2022) since the deadline was nearly here. It looks like the rejection was for the 2019 AGE. Since I have used Turbo for 4 years, that information should have been there.
