Can I make deposits to an IRA on my 2016 tax return not that we are in 2017? Can any amount of IRA deposit in 2017 be used as a deduction for 2016?

You can make a contribution to a Traditional IRA (if you are eligible) before April 18, 2017 and deduct it on your 2016 tax return.
