Can I not claim retirement contributions so I can avoid having to pay TurboTax $118?

TurboTax encouraged me to claim my meager retirement contributions to see if I qualify for a credit.  Turns out I qualify for an extra $68 on my return, but now TurboTax is forcing me to upgrade to Deluxe and pay them $118.  How can I opt out?

You can disqualify yourself for the retirement saver credit by telling the software you are a student.

 

Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site
