Question

Can I still e-file from Turbotax desktop when filing 2023 taxes from Florida, since IRS extended deadline to May 1st 2025? Program says both yes/no in different sections.

This is for individual taxes, where I would like to avoid filing through mail since it delays everything. Seems like IRS still allows e-filing, but Turbotax gives conflicting information on whether it supports it both online and on the desktop app. Thanks!

Sorry---e-filing has been permanently closed for 2023 returns since the end of October 2024.   You have had  an extension to file the return, but it has to be filed by mail now.   Only some tax professionals with professional tax software can e-file 2023; it cannot be e-filed using TurboTax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses

Thanks a lot! Turbotax desktop version still offers e-filing and mentions it as the recommended option (I assumed it was because in Florida we are still in the allowed filing window for IRS). Could you confirm that even though the software recommends using use e-file, the option is really not available and should be avoided?
