Can i still file even though i do not have my 1099-G form for the 2021 year?

I have my 2021 W2 from my actual job but i still have not received my 1099-G form for my unemployment from 2021

NO...do not file without putting everything, every scrap of income in your tax file.

 

For some states, you don't get the 1099-G in the mail...they have you log into the state unemployment website to get it.

 

ANNNNND, for those that do mail them out they have until 31 January to send it out to you  (plus as many more days as the Post Office takes to get it to you.)

Do not file a tax return until you have ALL of your income information to enter.  It all has to go on the same tax return.   If you file without entering your unemployment you will have a mess.   You would have to amend your tax return to fix it, and there are still people waiting for the IRS to process amended returns they sent in many months ago----do you want to be one of them?

 

The IRS will not begin to accept e-files until January 24.   And if you are getting earned income credit or the child tax credit, the PATH act means you cannot get a refund until the end of February no matter how soon you file.   There is no up-side to filing early without all of your information.
