Can we deduct Medicare Supplemental Insurance, i.e. Anthem? This not an advantage or HMO plan

Yes, medical insurance premiums, including Medicare supplemental plans (it doesn't have to be an HMO or Advantage plan), are qualified medical expenses.   You can deduct the portion of medical expenses that exceeds 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (AGI) for 2021 (if you itemize deductions).

 

Medical, dental, and vision expenses are reported on Schedule A and entered in the Deductions & Credits section.

  1. With your return open, search for Schedule A and then select the Jump to link in the search results.
  2. Enter your medical expenses, starting with prescriptions, on the following screens.
