I just started receiving Social Security Benefits in October of 2023. Do I have to file and claim this on my income tax return?

Yes, you do.

Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security  (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.

Yes, you have to report form SSA-1099 on your tax return.

In TurboTax Online, you can enter your form SSA-1099 by following these steps:

  1. Open your tax return
  2. Click on the down arrow on the right of Federal in the left-hand column, then on Wages & Income
  3. Locate the section Retirement Plans and Social Security and click on the right arrow on the right
  4. Click Start next to Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099).
