Do I have to list my Tax Free medical "In line of duty" retirement as gross income?

Please clarify - why are you receiving this retirement income, who is paying it and how is it getting reported to you (e.g. 1099-R)?

 

"Disability/medical retirement"payments are subject to federal income tax (the only exception being VA disability payments which are not considered "retirement" payments).

 

Some states may exempt these payments from state tax, depending on the facts surrounding the payments (e.g. your employer, your profession),
