Question

Do I need to attach my 1099-R for 2024 based on a recharacterization I filed during last years return?

I'm filing my taxes for 2024 and noticed I received a 1099-R. This form is for the recharacterization of my 2023 Roth IRA contributions into my regular IRA due to high income. I did this before I filed my 2023 return at the start of 2024. This recharacterization includes the contributions plus my earnings on the money. I did this recharacterization before I filed last year, so it shows up on my last year's tax return. TurboTax is saying I may need to amend my last year's tax return since I got a 1099-R. My question is, do I need to attach this 1099-R to my 2024 tax return? Is there any harm in doing so even if I don't need to? My box 1 has the amount recharacterized, no taxable amount, and is code R.

What do you mean: "attach"?

Since you took care of this on your 2023 tax return, there is nothing more to do

Only when  the 1099-R shows withholding do you have to file it. there is no reason to attach it unless you are mailing your1040.

A recharacterization does not require any withholding.

When I mean "attach" I meant input it into turbotax. Once I got the form I put it into TurboTax and that's when I got a popup saying I may need to amend my previous year's tax return. I figured that since it was already on last year's return I wouldn't need to do anything else. I wanted to try and confirm that and was wondering if it's ok to leave the 1099R or if I should remove it
