Hi I'm Aliyanna's grandma, I adopted her when she was 2, she is now 9, I'm on SS disability, she receives SS as my dependent, do I qualify to file taxes? My ex husband always claims her, but we are no longer together and he does not pay child support or sees her.. Can he claim? Or can I?

If the Social Security benefits is the Only income to be reported on the tax return and there is no federal income taxes being withheld, then there is no reason or need to file a tax return, with or without a dependent.

Unless you also received a Form 1095-A for your health insurance through one of the State Marketplace Exchanges or from healthcare.gov then you must file a tax return.
