I'm a senior with a basic return although I missed taking a small rmd for 2024.  I understand that form 5329 part 1X, explanation of missed rmd must be filed with my return.  If I purchase turbotax desktop will I be able to fill out, complete and submit this form with my turbotax return and have it filed electronically?

Thank you,

Gab77

Yes, TurboTax will walk you through questions to fill out Form 5329 for the missed RMD. Please take your missed RMD as soon as possible. Yes, you should be able to e-file your return. Please see How do I e-file my tax return?

    1. Click "Federal Taxes" on the top and select "Wages & Income"
    2. Click "I'll choose what to work on"
    3. Scroll down and click "Start" next to "IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan (1099-R)
    4. Continue through the questions until you get you the "Did you miss a Required Minimum Distribution From Any retirement Accounts?" screen
    5. TurboTax will walk you through the questions and fill out Form 5329
