Turbo tax won't let me file until this is fixed

I agree, it is very frustrating.

TurboTax programmers are currently implementing some recent IRS changes for reporting SEP and SIMPLE plan contributions. While there isn't an estimated date when the changes will be done, you can test this by editing your W-2 every 5-7 days to check on the status.

On January 8, 2024, the IRS released a notice describing many changes required to implement the Secure Act 2.0. If you try to enter Code S for Box 12 of your W-2, you may see this message: "We're updating how SEP and simple plan contributions are reported on the tax return based on new guidance from the IRS."

Section 601 of the Secure Act 2.0 refers specifically to Simple and SEP Roth IRAs. Code S in box 12 defines how to handle a SIMPLE plan.

These last-minute IRS (and law) changes often cause implementation delays for TurboTax and other tax processors.

Please be patient while TurboTax works to understand all the ramifications of this IRS Notice then code and test the changes. Note that the IRS is not open for e-filing until January 29th.

So how do we know it will go through and nothing be wrong when changing the box 12 code because it will not match our w2 at that point

I spoke with someone last night who told me that they usually download updates, or are finished downloading updates, on the day that we are able to file, that being today. He suggested I try again this morning. I tried again this morning and it is still doing it. My question is, if I was to cancel out, since I have it set to come out of my refund, would I be able to switch to another tax program? And if so, would they have the same issue?

I've been looking around at other product forums to see if this has been an issue and haven't seen any others reporting it so far, but I really don't want to redo everything, plus fight Intuit for a refund.  I'm quite pissed that I got charged $102 today and then found out I couldn't file AFTER paying.

I was advised NOT to change the forms just to push them through.  The updates are expected on or before February 1st, so despite paying today and not being able to file I did lock in lower pricing, and I was advised to reach back out to support anytime before then for a full refund if I want to move elsewhere to file.

Hopefully Intuit gets moving and issues the update necessary pretty quickly.  It sounds like they are getting a lot of calls about this, and have been all month and will likely lose business the longer they delay.

It’s January 29 and that message is still coming up. On January 9, everything was good on the IRS side of things.

Can TurboTax provide an update for when they might be able to process these returns?

January 29, 2024

As of the 29th of January I am having this issue as well.

Same crap has been happening to me! I’m about to just file with another tax program!

This is so annoying. Does anyone know when this will be fixed. It amazes me how they have all year to get this stuff figured out & now tax season is here & there are issues after issues.

Got the same message this morning

January 30, 2024

At least your federal for approved. My federal won’t even get approved. My state isn’t going to be ready to file until the 31st.

Hello…

Did you switch from Code “S” to code “D” ?

January 30, 2024

Not sure how to do that.

January 30, 2024

I’m having the same issue. Really wish they hadn’t taken my payment only to find out I couldn’t file due to this update that hadn’t been done.

January 30, 2024

It’s not even letting me pay to move past this problem! I did enter all of my info into H&R and it put me all the way through to the end. So is it only Turbo Tax that’s having the issue? 🧐

January 30, 2024

Yes Turbo Tax is the only one having this issue, H&R Block, Freetax USA, & tax act are all fine!
