Since the income reported on Form 1099-NEC is self-employment or 'non-employee compensation' it must be associated with a Schedule C, even if there are no business expenses being claimed.

You will not be able to use the TurboTax free edition to enter income from Form 1099-NEC because the required Schedule C is not available in the free edition.  You will be required to upgrade to the Deluxe edition to report only the income, or a higher version to report the income and expenses on Schedule C.

See the following TurboTax article for more information:  Which TurboTax Online version do I need for a Schedule C?
