How do I answer the question about my employment status when I am retired as this option was not available?

Not sure where you are in the program.   For occupation you can say anything you want to since the IRS only uses occupation for statistics--not for anything that affects your tax due or refund.   If you do not have any W-2's you can delete old employers that transferred over from last year and tell the software you do not have any W-2's.    

To enter retirement income:

 Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security  (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.

To enter your retirement income, Go to  Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA  401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.
