Question

How do I code a total distribution (full surrender) to an IRA, if it doesn't ask me if I "rolled over some or all..."?

Did you put it in another IRA account?  Are you entering the 1099R?  What code is in box 7?  Code G is for a direct transfer so it might not need to ask you.

TurboTax does provide for these conditions.

 

The 1099-R has a check box on line 2b that indicates Total Distribution.

 

The code for the type of distribution is Box 7,

You will be asked questions as you proceed through the interview.

You will come to the question Did you roll over all of this $XX,XXX Box 1) to another retirement account?
