It depends. If you do not have your 1099-G for unemployment compensation you received, select your state here to go to your local unemployment website. Once there, you may be able to sign in to your account and view it, or request another one be sent to you.

To enter your unemployment, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Open or continue your tax return.
  2. Search for 1099-G and select the Jump to link at the top of the search results.
  3. On the Did you receive unemployment or paid family leave benefits in 2021? screen, answer Yes.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your 1099-G information.

If your 1099-G is from state or local tax refund, your state and local refunds should automatically be brought over with your other tax info if you transferred last year’s tax data to this year's return.

Here are some other places you might find the amount of last year’s state/local refund:

  • Last year's state tax return
  • Your bank statement showing your entire state/locality refund
  • Your state tax agency (for state refunds) or municipality (for local refunds)

If you know last year's refund amount, you don't need a 1099-G. Follow these steps to enter last year’s refund amount:

  1. Sign in to your account and open the Income & Expenses section of your return
  2. On the Your income and expenses screen, select Add more income
  3. Look for the Other Common Income section and select Show more
  4. Select Start on the Refunds Received for State/Local Tax Returns section
  5. Enter your refund amount
