How do I report monthly distributions from pension? This is not a required distribution because I reached the age of 70.5 years in 2016. It should go in 12a on1040A.

Actually, even pensions have RMDs. It's just not commonly recognized since the distributions from your pension are all RMD and the entire RMD required of the pension.
