Question

How does one input a 1099-R for an IRA cash out into TurboTax Business for a decedent's estate form 1041 in order to get a refund of the taxes that were withheld?

Form 1041 in TurboTax Business shows a NOL.  Taxes were withheld on an IRA 1099-R .  Where does the 1099-R get input in order to get back the tax withholding?

Per Expert @LindaS5247

It would be reported as "other income".

Per the 1041 government instructions "Any part of a total distribution shown on a Form 1099-R, Distributions From Pensions, Annuities, Retirement or Profit-Sharing Plans, IRAs, Insurance Contracts, etc., that is treated as ordinary income" should be reported on Line 8; Other Income.

To enter this:

Click the Federal Taxes tab

Click Income, and then click the Start button to the right of Other income or loss

Check the box "If any is from Form 1099".

You can enter the withholding in Forms Mode on your 1041.

Marylin G1 has a work around answer. I should be able to enter each 1099-R just as I do in the Premier versioni of TT. There are boxes that match all the boxes on the 1099-R form.

What version of TurboTax are you using and what are you trying to do?  @deboe11   -  This thread is a few years old - If you want to start a new thread, click here.
