Question

HRB to TurboTax

It appears that tax files created in H&R Block software for the 2021 tax year are transferable to TurboTax for 2022 tax filing.  I have seen various questions dancing around that issue, just want to make sure it is possible.  I have used HRB for years and did not have any issues until last year when the software did not do a calculation correctly, resulting in an underpayment letter from the IRS.  I discussed what I saw as a software glitch with two HRB employees who agreed with me so I filed a report with HRB which they reviewed and then denied there was an issue with their software.  Based on that I am considering switching to TurboTax.

What Turbo Tax version are you thinking of using?  They are different and transfer differently.

TurboTax Online web version and the Mac Desktop CD/Download program only supports PDF transfers, if you used other tax software last year.

You can try to transfer the actual data file from H R Block or TaxAct into the Windows Desktop program. See

    To Transfer from the PDF……
You need to have the actual electronic pdf file not a printed or scanned copy. But a pdf only transfer very basic info like your name and AGI. It would be just as easy to manually enter all your info. So it's probably not worth even trying to transfer it.

Only those with a complex return  (i.e. depreciation, Roth contribution history etc.) who have attempted this can tell you what will happen.
