Question

I am nonresident allien who worked in the US (California) 5 years ago. Currently I am in Europe. I want to withdraw money from my 401(k). Do I file only federal return?

Or should I file state return as well (California?). I am in Europe for last 5 years.

NON RESIDENT ALIEN  

If you are a non-resident alien, your return must be filed on Form 1040NR, which cannot be prepared using TurboTax.  You can use TT’s partner, sprintax:

You must also file a California 540 NR. See above link HERE on how to file this as well as @xmasbaby0 explained earlier.

why do I have to file California return if I don't live in California for a long time already?
