Question

I am not sure I indicated that I am exempt from NY State taxes. Do I owe taxes on NC retirement and Social Security?

It depends. North Carolina exempts all Social Security retirement benefits from income taxes. Other forms of retirement income are taxed at the North Carolina flat income tax rate of 4.50%. The state's property and sales taxes are both moderate. TurboTax will handle this in the state interview.

If you did mean to ask about New York (NY), please include more details.
