Solved

I am retired fed employee w/ HSA that my former employer the US govt. contributed $750 to in 2016. No W-2 since I am retired. Where do I enter the $750 in TurboTax so that it will feed in to the form 8889?

To enter contributions your employers contribution to an HSA:

• Select Federal Taxes
• Select Show More at Less Common Income
• Select Start or Revisit next to 1099-SA, HSA, MSA

You will indicate you had an HSA and then continue through the screens until you get to “Did you put money into an HSA in 2016?”. Indicate yes and on the next screen you will enter your employers contribution. See screen shot below.

@TurboTaxFern I think they need to enter this as an employer contribution, NOT a personal contribution as you suggest. This money came tax free from an employer, i.e. it was not reported as income. Adding it as a personal contribution will result in an additional tax deduction (F1040, line 25) which is incorrect.
I'm not familiar with the actual screens for online software. They need a screen similar to this.....
"Did your employer tell you about any other contributions," then on the following page put this in the box titled:  Employer and payroll contributions not reported Box 12 of your W-2."
