Question

I am stuck on the “cash contributions” section regarding the cares act. It says within “300” but every number I enter claims to be invalid or out of range. Please help!

I selected that I have not donated because I haven’t but it’s suggesting I have.

To resolve this error, leave the field blank completely in the review section.

If this is not possible, return to the Charitable Donations section and delete from there.

  • To return to the Charitable Donation Section, follow these steps:
    • From the left menu, select Federal.
    • Select the second tab from the left across the top, Deductions & Credits.
    • Scroll down to Charitable Donations.
    • Click the trash can icon by any details listed.

  • When finished entering all donations, select Done with Charitable Donations and Continue.
  • Scroll to the end of Deductions & Credits and select Done with Deductions.
    • You may need to respond to any other additional questions. You will eventually see: The Standard Deduction is Right for You!
    • Click Continue.
    • Now, you will see Charitable Cash Contributions under Cares Act where you will see any qualified contribution amount already entered from your earlier posts. Whatever is entered here, delete it. Leave the field blank. Select Continue.
      • TurboTax will calculate this field automatically. This should update the program that no cash contributions were made or reported in 2020.

If results are still unexpected, delete any charitable cash contribution worksheets that have been generated, too.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. From the left menu, select Tax Tools.
  2. Select Tools.
  3. Scroll to Delete a Form.
  4. Scroll to Charitable Organization and select Delete and Delete Selected Form and Continue.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the next window and select Continue With My Return.
