I am trying to deduct my tools (im a mechanic). my statement has two totals, purchases and payment amount. which total do i use? i make payments each check for my tools.

Do I use purchases total or Payment total?

You can use the purchases amount. Even if you paid the amount due in a later check, it still counts as being purchased on the day you bought the tools.

Thank you! also, do i put the last day of the year since the statement goes from 1/1 to 12/31?
