Solved

. I am trying to remove/change what should be a SSA-1099 from a 1099R. I never keyed in a 1099R. In the smart check its showing as a 1099R and asking for the payers info.

Disregard Smart Check.  When you go to the section IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), and click the start or update button, do you see the screen Your 1099-R Entries?

The first screen shot is what you should see if you follow these steps for a Form 1099-R and there already has been a Form 1099-R entered.  You do not see that screen?

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  • On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button

The second screenshot is what you should see when you follow these steps for a SSA-1099 after selecting Yes for Did You Receive Any Social Security Benefits?

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)

  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  • On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button

Do you see that screen?
