I dissolved a 401k and put into a IRA. Is this considered a contribution

No.  I think you did a rollover or conversion to the IRA.  It is not a new contribution.  Did you get a 1099R?  What code is in box 7?   How did you put it in the IRA?  Did you get a check and put it in the IRA within 60 days?  Or did the 401K transfer it directly?  

 

If you rolled it into a Traditional IRA (not a ROTH) then it should show up on your 1040 line 5a and 0 taxable amount on line 5b with Rollover written by it.
