I do not have a Box 16a on my 1099-R. I live in Ohio. Turbo Tax is asking for an amount of state distributi0n.Should I enter the amount of state tax withheld in Box 14

No...not 14.

 

Heer's my take on how to deal with it.

 

IF box 1 and 2a are the same value, enter that value into box 16.

Note...the 14a and 16a sub-designations are sometimes used if you moved during the year, and had two state's withholding taken...thus 14a, 15a, and 16a for one state, or 14b, 15b,and 16b for the other.

 

IF you DID actually move to another state during 2023, and if you DO actually have two different state's withholding taken during 2023 and showing on that 1099-R form, then your OH box 16a needs to be the sub-portion of box 1 that you received during the time you lived in OH.
