Question

I entered an IRA amount as a deduction to see what it would save me. I have tried to delete this contribution--have deselected it and it shows $0--but it won't go away

I entered the IRA deduction amount just to see what it would save me.  I now want it gone.  I have followed directions, deselected the contributions in the "Deductions & Credits" Retirement Contribution (IRA) section; the amount of IRA now shows $0; but it is still in my account (as I can see from the reduced tax bill and the fact that I keep getting notified of an excess contribution at the analysis phase).  How do I get rid of this IRA contribution?

You may have to delete the IRA contributions and IRA information worksheets. Maybe the Form 5329 as well, if the only item you have recorded on it is the test IRA contribution.

Note: Be careful! Once you delete, it is gone for good. You will have to re-enter data if you delete by mistake.

  • Scroll list to locate the form and delete.
