Question

I entered my SSA income as it is on my Form SSA-1099. But on the page labeled "Your income" it shows up as approximately $10,000 over twice as much. Why?

Could you have typed a decimal point in the wrong place? Go back and double check the amounts.

Federal Taxes on the left side or top

Wages and Income

Then scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security

Then the second line - Social Security (SSA-1099. RRB-1099) - click the Start or Revisit button

Thank you for the tip.  I did go back and check but I didn't find where I made a mistake.  I wonder if there might be a calculation mistake in the software.

Go in an delete the SSA-1099 through forms then re-enter.  Try reviewing your forms in TurboTax and deleting the duplicate. While in your return in TurboTax:

  • In the left hand column select "Tax Tools"
  • Select "Tools"
  • Select "Delete a form"
  • Review for "Social Security Benefits Worksheet"
  • Delete selected form then "Continue"
  • Then "Continue with my return"

The re-enter your SSA-1099.  After you have logged in and are in your return:

  • Go to Search at the top of the screen.
  • Enter Form 1099-SSA in the search box.
  • You will see a Jump To function that will take you to the 1099-SSA input screens.
  • There add the 1099-SSA.

Review your Wages & Income summary.
