Solved

I filled taxes today and collected by retirement. I'm only age 55 and it did not charge me a 10% penalty. I have a 2 in box 7.

There are numerous codes that help figure out the treatment of a distribution. Code 2 is as follows:

2—Early distribution, exception applies (under age 59½).

Apparently there was an exception that the issuer already took into account. If you think there is an error. contact the institution that issued it.

If you separated from service from this employer in 2016 and reached age 55 in 2016, you qualify for the age-55 exception to the early-distribution penalty.  It seems that the code 2 is indicating this.
