I have been living in SC for the past year 2017 taking care of my mother. I retired and the taxes that are taken out of social security and my job pension is base on SC taxes because I changed my mailing address.  I am still a resident of Georgia  and have a home there..  I intend to file Georgia state tax return.  Do I have to file a South Carolina state tax return as well?

Since you were taxed in SC, you should file a Non-Resident return in SC with the hope of getting some of your taxes back.

What state you are a resident has to do with intent.  So you intend to go home to GA?  Do you still have your cars registered there?  Do you have ties to GA?  Driver's license and car insurance?  f you answer yes, then you should file a resident there.

Make sure you do the Non-Resident return first so you can get a deduction in GA.
