Question

I have a W-2 with two State Employer #'s due to a company name change in 2024. There are two separate entries for boxes 15-17 and TT wants one set deleted. What do I do?

Depending on what state it is, you may not be required to enter the State Employer Number- try adding the amounts together and using the later name/number.  If the state requires the employer numbers, you will get an e-file error.

The state is NY.  You’re suggesting i pay to submit my taxes and take a chance that the state will accept them.  If they don’t accept them, I’m out the filing fee and can’t file with TT.  What a headache.  Although i appreciate your reply, it’s a terrible solution and it shows that TT is a terrible tax prep software.  After all, i can’t be the first one in the history of TT to run into this.

The problem likely is that the state won't accept the W-2 entry with two separate employer numbers for various reasons. You will likely run into the same issue no matter what tax preparation program you use. The best recommendation is as mentioned by @MAK70 to combine the entries and either omit the employer number or just use one of them.
