Solved

I have income from an investment that I rolled over into a 401K in 2016. I also retired in 2016. Must I report this as income in my 2016 taxes?

If you got a 1099R is must be reported on the return.

If it went from a Traditional (non-Roth) retirement account to another Traditional retirement account there is no tax.

Or from a Roth to Roth.

Report the 1099R (if you got one, as Trustee to Trustee transfers you do not get one).

To enter pension and annuity Payments (1099-R)

  • Click on Federal Taxes
  • Click on Wages and Income
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  • On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button
