Question

I have tried to manually input data from form 1099-S, from a sale of land, and the system keeps changing the form to a 1099-B. Why is it doing this?

The IRS considers the sale of land, the sale of a second home and the sale of an inherited home to be investment sales.  See this TurboTax Help.

The sales are reported on IRS form 1099-B and IRS form 8949 Sales and Other Dispositions of Capital Assets and Schedule D Capital Gains and Losses.
