Solved

I know I'm not required to file a return, but would filing benefit me? I'm on Soc Sec Disab as my only income ($17,016 annual). I pd 10,000 of that in medical in 2017.

It's not likely.  If you had withholdings (taxes) taken out of your SS income, then you'd almost certainly get these back, but otherwise, you won't get any additional money.  You don't have earned income to receive Earned Income Credit.  But you can always start a return using TurboTax Absolute Zero, which costs you nothing but the time you take to enter your information. Then you can see if your situation might have a tax benefit that on the surface doesn't seem to exist.
