That depends.  If you need to change the amounts on the form, you will need to contact the Social Security Administration.  To change the amounts in TurboTax:

  • Log in to TurboTax
  • Select to Work on your Income & Expenses
  • Select the Social  Social Security  (SSA-1099 RRB-1099)
  • Continue through the screens to make your changes

Now if you don't see the Social Security SSA-1099 in your blue area of income items to complete, scroll down and you will see a button "I have other income items".  Click on that and it will open up to more income categories to enter,

Scroll down and find Retirement Plans and Social Security income category then "Show More".  Select "Start" next to the Social Security (SSA-1099) category.

From there you can make your changes.

Up to 85% of your Social Security benefits can be taxable income so make sure to account for this when determining your estimated taxes.
