I never received a 1099-G or a 1099-NEC? What should I do?

If you think you’d receive Form 1099-G for unemployment compensation, you should call your state’s labor office and request that it be sent to you.

If the 1099-G would be for a state or local tax refund, you can call your state’s revenue office, but you should have that information in your tax or banking records from last year – it’s simply the refund amount you received.  You can find your state’s revenue office website in the TurboTax Help article How do I contact my state Department of Revenue?.

As far as Form 1099-NEC, it’s only required to be provided to you if you were paid $600 or more for nonemployee compensation (NEC).  If it should’ve been sent to you, you should call the entity you provided the service for.

If you know the amount of NEC you received, you can simply enter the income straight into Schedule C, which is where self-employment income is reported.  In TurboTax,

  1. Type schedule c in the Search box.
  2. Select the Jump to schedule c link.
  3. In the interview, enter any income and related expenses.
