Question

I receive a pension from Calpers, but I don’t live in California. Do I have to file a tax return?

NO you do not have to file a CA tax return just because your retirement pension is coming to you from CA.   If you live in a state with a state income tax, you enter it on that state return.  Some states tax retirement income and some do not; we do not know what state you are in.

Thank you for the quick response. The tax guidelines from California are kinda confusing, (shocking), and it says if you are a non resident but your income generates from California, you have to file.  I don’t see why because I don’t owe any income taxes to California.

Thank you again for the response. By the way, I live in Georgia and I do pay state taxes on my Calpers pension here.
