I received a 1099-c form and it had amounts on it which I entered but then I received a corrected 1099-c form with zero amounts on it. should I be concerned?

You should enter the amounts on the corrected 1099-C instead of the original.

If you have already filed your return, your next steps depend on whether your filed return is accepted or rejected by the IRS.

If your return is rejected, you can simply correct your 1099-C entries before you re-submit your tax return.

If your filed return has been accepted by the IRS, you will need to file an amended return to correct your 1099-C, if it changes the amount of your refund or taxes owed.  You can check this by starting the amend process, making the 1099-C changes.  If the amended return shows additional tax due you should amend.  If a refund, you can amend to get the extra refund.

You should wait until your already-filed tax return has been processed (i.e., refund received or payment deducted from your bank account). Then, you can use TurboTax to prepare an amended return.

Here is how to amend your 2019 TurboTax Online return:

  1. Sign in to TurboTax.
  2. Scroll down to Your tax return & documents (you may need to select Show), select 2019 and then Amend (change) return.
  • If you only see the option to amend 2018 or earlier, it's because you can't amend an unfiled 2019 return. Instead, just select Pick up where you left off, make your changes, and disregard the rest of these instructions.
  1. Select Amend using TurboTax Online.
  2. Carefully follow the instructions. Don't worry if your refund changes to $0. This is normal on amended returns.
  3. When finished, TurboTax will give you instructions for printing and mailing your amended return as amendments can't be e-filed.
