Question

I received a lump sum payment from Social Security in 2018, do I need to list it on my 2022 taxes?

No, you will not report the lump sum payment from Social Security that you received in 2018 on your 2022 tax return. You will only enter the payments you received that are listed on you 2022 Form SSA-1099. If you received a lump sum payment in 2022 (which would be reported on your SSA-1099), then you would report the taxable portion on your 2022 tax return.

Please review the IRS link FAQs Lump Sum payments for previous years and also the TurboTax article Is my Social Security income taxable?
