Question

I sold a piece of land in 2023 and received the full sale price of $10K in one lump sum. Received a 1099-S. Where do I report the 1099-S?

In the 'Wages and Income' section of your federal return scroll down to 'Investment Income' and click 'start' next to 'Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other' (you're the other).  Follow the prompts to enter information about your land sale.

You'll need the date of the sale and the sale price as well as the date that you bought the land and the price that you paid for it.  The system will also ask about any costs of sale so if you had any commissions or fees that you paid on the sale you would enter them there.
