Question

I thought my AGI for 2019 was 7,900 but in looking at papers, it was really zero. My question is this. When I correct the mistake, will I get the deduction back?

My return was rejected because of incorrect AGI for 2019. When I filed this year, I was suppose to get a return over 3000, however, they stated I owed taxes because I stated my AGI was 7900 for 2019. Once fixed, will they refund me the difference

please explain exactly where on 2020 tax return you enter AGI that affects your refund.

Yes, you make a valid point! In reviewing the 2020 tax return, nowhere does it reflect me owing on back taxes for 2019, however, when looking at Turbo taxes previous years returns, it shows that I owed almost 700 dollars for 2019. That year unforeseen circumstances caused me to make less than 10,000, therefore, didn’t file a return and return not filed non-filers paperwork.Oddly, before the IRS accepted( or rather rejected) my return, it reflected that the amount approved to be 3200. Once the IRS rejected the return because of the made up AGI of 7,900 for 2019., Turbo Tax recommended that I change the AGI to 0. I did so, and Turbo Tax updated the return to reflect the original return. Now, after logging in to check the status, it shows the lesser number being approved. So what happened to the difference?

The IRS requires your 2019 AGI to verify your identity for e-filing. If you're paper-filing your return, you won't need your AGI because those are manually processed.

They do not use it to calculate the current year tax.
