Question

I took over $30,000 from my investment of less than $120,000 that should satisfy my requirements for RMD. How do I proceed?

Yes we can help you enter retirement distribution that is larger than your required RMD.

    Log into TurboTax

    1. Under Federal
    2. Select Wages & Income
    3. Scroll to Retirement Plans and Social Security
    4. Select IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)
    5. Follow the interview.
    6. If 6 boxes appear select Skip This
    7. Let's import your tax info - Change how I enter my form
    8. Three boxes - Type it myself
    9. Four boxes select type of form (usually Financial institution) - Continue
    10. Continue the interview to How much of the $ XX,XXX was an RMD?
    11. Follow the steps through the interview.

Where do I enter my 1099-R?

"that should satisfy my requirements for RMD"

if you're having difficulty with TurboTax, they changed the questions this year and not for the better.

You can get around this by saying "the amount I took out is my RMD amount"
