I want to amend by Michigan refund for 2023. Iam a retired law enforcement police officer . I should not have paid Mi tax on pension. Form is 4884

To start the process of amending your state return, please follow the step-by-step instructions here. 

Then, once you are back in your state return, please follow the instructions below:

1. Go through the screens until you reach the screen, Retirement Income and Pension Summary.
2. Click Edit next to your retirement distribution.
3. Use the drop down menu to click on Type G (Government or Public). Click Continue.
4. On the screen, Any of these retirement situations?, click on the box that you Received qualified benefits from fire, police, or corrections service.
5. Continue through your return.
6. On the screen, Here's the income that Michigan handles differently, you should see your retirement income and pension deduction in the full amount of your pension.
