Yes, in part~TurboTax will help you capture these details.

  • The federal return only provides an additional deduction for being over 65 or legally blind. So, being declared disabled would not need to be reported.
  • For the state return, if the state allows for any additional deduction for a medical condition, this will be answered during the state interview.

Regarding the Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) received, they should be entered into TurboTax because they may be (partially) taxable based on the amount of any other income being reported. TurboTax will automatically calculate this for you.

To enter your Social Security benefits reported on Form SSA-1099:

  • From the left menu>select
  • Federal>Wages & Income>
  • Click Add more income
  • Scroll to Retirement Plans and Social Security, click Show more
  • Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099) click Start

Did you already file your return, or are you still working on it? Unfortunately, we do not have access to your return here, as this is a public forum. Please provide details on your specific concern so we can better assist.
